- Profile
West Pines Behavioral Health is located in a serene and therapeutic setting in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
The center offers comprehensive behavioral health services for adults aged 18 and above. It provides treatment for substance abuse and psychiatric and emotional issues. West Pines offers residential treatment which lasts between 14 and 30 days.
Accommodations
Operating out of a tree-lined complex, West Pines is a large residential housing center; however, all the action happens in the center’s main facility. West Pines can accommodate 20 clients at a time. It has a separate detox unit as well as two units for clients seeking treatment for mental health ailments.
Rooms at West Pines are well furnished. Each room has twin beds, wardrobes, two desks, and a bathroom. Residents are gender-segregated and stay separately, but they do treatment activities together.
Food
Residents enjoy their meals in a dining room located across the housing units. The residents are offered cafeteria-style options. They can also enjoy snacks from a well-stocked snack room situated in the housing wing.
Treatment Program
West Pines specializes in providing treatment for dual diagnosis support. During their stay at the center, the residents have several interactions with the psychiatrist. They are also assigned individual therapists.
The individual and group sessions focus on Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), CBT, group processing, and narrative therapy. Residents also have to attend the 12-step meetings, held usually at night.
West Pines offers its clients a medically managed detox with medications such as Suboxone, Antabuse, and Naltrexone; residents requiring detox are housed in a separate wing.
Because the stay at West Pines is short, the center focuses on providing a comprehensive aftercare program tailored to the requirements of the residents, with inputs from counselors.
Alumni are allowed to attend once weekly free group sessions on Tuesdays, 6:00 to 7:30 pm for one year. This is for reinforcing the lessons which they learned while in treatment, identify triggers and encourage abstinence.
After completing a year, alumni can join another group that meets on Tuesdays, 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The alumni themselves run this group. Alumni also meet the current residents and share their stories.
West Pines also offers an outpatient program for clients having issues with chemical dependency. Though it is known as an intensive program, the schedule is not extensive as IOPs and is mainly focused on secondary or transitional care.
These sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Staff
The treatment team at West Pines Behavioral Health includes a psychiatrist, medical doctor, nurses, counselors, and case managers.
Additional Facilities
West Pines does not offer a lot of recreation options to its clients. There are no field trips. The residents can, however, sweat it out in a gym, which also has an indoor climbing wall.
Aside from that, the center works with Phoenix Multisport to provide the residents with an active, physical lifestyle.
West Pines clients have access to Phoenix’s resources, which includes organized group activities such as hiking, climbing, swimming, running, mountain and road biking, strength training, yoga, and more.
All these are either held in West Pines gym or local Boulder and Denver communities.
Cost
Approximately $10,300 (14 days); approximately $700 for additional days.
West Pines is in-network for major insurance carriers such as Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Co-Finity, Cigna, United, Value Options, TRICARE, and Kaiser Permanente.
