Somerset Hospital is one of the leading non-profit hospitals in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Besides medical services, it also offers a residential rehab treatment facility – Twin Lakes Center.
Started in 1983, Twin Lakes Center is a private non-profit rehab center that offers medical detox, residential rehab (short-term), and outpatient programs for adults having substance use disorder.
Set in over 30 acres in rural Somerset County, the easily accessible Twin Lakes Center offers a quiet and relaxing environment for recovery. The center is co-ed and serves adults aged 18 and over. Male and female clients stay in separate cabins. Each cabin can house up to 12 candidates, a maximum three or four based on the census.
Small but homey, the cabin’s bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, a closet, and a shared dresser and closet. The residents share a large, dorm-style bathroom that has separate showers. The cabins have sleeping quarters on the second story, and community TV and dining room on the ground floor.
The kitchen is located on the ground floor of men’s house, while therapy rooms and counseling offices, along with a small detox unit and a nurses’ station, are set up on the first floor of women’s cabin.
Residents are served food, buffet-style. The food is prepared by staff that ensures residents are served healthy and nutritious meals. The center does accommodate special dietary requests provided these are intimated during the intake. Weather permitting, residents are served lunch and dinner on picnic benches set up under shady trees.
Before starting the treatment process, residents undergo an evaluation to determine the best treatment track for them. If detox is necessary, they are sent to the center’s detox unit, where they undergo a medically monitored detox program for two to three days. Once stabilized, residents are transitioned to the 28-day gender-specific residential program.
All programs include group and individual therapy sessions, support groups, and recreational activities. The support groups address topics like trauma, shame, self-esteem, and relationships.
Besides the short-term residential program, Twin Lakes Center also offers outpatient treatment programs that can either act as a stand-alone treatment or a step-down treatment for program graduates.
Outpatient options provided by the center include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) track where the clients receive 22 hours of therapy a week. This track includes three individual sessions lasting for an hour, and four group sessions lasting for three hours. The treatment modality is primarily a 12-step approach and DBT.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) track is less intense, and clients receive nine hours of treatment a week. Relapse prevention is the primary focus of this track. Treatment in this track is delivered through two three-hour-long group sessions and one individual session lasting for an hour.
Standard outpatient treatment is designed as per the client’s needs. This track runs for nine or fewer hours during the week and consists of group and individual sessions.
The treatment team at Twin Lakes Center comprises a medical director, nurses, an LCSW, and counselors.
Approximately $5,500 (28 days).
