- Profile
The Ranch Tennessee is situated on 2000 acres of land in Nunnelly, Tennessee. Acquired in 2010 by Promises Behavioral Health, The Ranch offers treatment programs for alcohol and drug addiction, and various other disorders like sex addiction, depression, and eating disorders.
The center utilizes various traditional and modern treatment modalities to treat the clients. The Ranch is a working ranch and has Native American mysticism attached to it.
Accommodations
The Ranch accommodates 36 clients (18 women and 18 men). They are housed in five houses that are styled liked cabins. While Creek House and Lane residences are for women, the men are housed in Spring, Hilltop, and River House. Each rustic home can easily access the Piney River running through the grounds. Each house focuses on specific recovery issues.
A majority of the residences have a large, open-spaced kitchen that is adjacent to a large dining room. Some houses also have wood-burning stoves, granite countertops, and a scenic 360-degree view of Tennessee countryside.
Treatment Program
The Ranch runs various treatment programs. The primary programs are on-site detoxification and AA meetings (on-site and off-site meetings, and a 12-step nature trail).
Besides the Big Book, residential clients have to undergo various spiritual recovery programs. Each resident has to have a copy of “The Four Agreements” by Miguel Ruiz. This book, with four central tenets in it, relies on ancient Toltec wisdom to show steps for living a balanced life.
Other counseling and group therapy sessions focus on dual diagnosis, relapse prevention, and other psychological problems that a client may have. The center also offers gender-specific programs and uses EMDR and CBT-based treatment approaches. All said, a resident, in a month, will spend more than 100 hours attending various therapy groups.
The Ranch’s defining aspect is the emphasis on residents undertaking outdoor activities and following a sort of shamanistic approach in their pursuit of recovery. Equine therapy is also offered at this center with the equine therapist team having greater than two decades of experience.
Staff
The treatment team at The Ranch includes a physician, spiritual coaches, as well as different therapists (excluding resident psychiatrists). The center also has cows, horses, and donkeys.
In Addition
The Ranch campus is set up on a shared hunting ground of Creek, Cherokee, and Chickasaw Indians. The traditions followed by these Indians are still followed through sweat lodge ceremonies, and medicine wheel meditating area.
The sweat lodge ceremonies entail building a fire in a tent made of blankets and willows, placing stones in the fire, and pouring water to produce steam in the room. This room is then used for group therapy sessions.
Every resident has various outdoor recreational activities which they can enjoy, including hiking, fishing, yoga, and volleyball. Residents can also visit Nashville for movies, rodeos, or county fairs.
Cost
Approximately $22,000-$30,000 (30 days).
