The Farley Center, located near the picturesque Waller Mill Park, Williamsburg, Virginia, is one of the leading drug and alcohol treatment centers. The center offers medical detox, short as well as long-term residential programs, and outpatient treatment programs for adult clients seeking substance abuse treatment.
While the Farley Center does treat addiction, it also addresses certain co-occurring disorders such as trauma, process addictions, and relationship issues.
The Farley Center can accommodate nearly 70 residents at a time. The housing units consist of many colonial-style buildings. The center’s main building houses 50 residents as well as the treatment staff. Two residents share the rooms. The residents also share a bathroom.
The campus has three apartment buildings – two-bedroom units – four in number. Residents transition from the main house to the rooms, at the treatment staff’s discretion. These apartments are equipped with a full kitchen. Residents have to do their cooking and cleaning.
The center offers a coed TV room. Residents can also access the YWCA for working out. Those not keen on working out can go for a walk on the walking paths. Residents cannot use computers or cell phones. Visitors are entertained after residents spend a week at the center.
Three meals are served to the residents of the main house. They can enjoy soup, salad, as well as a sandwich bar during each meal. Individual dietary recommendations are accommodated.
Treatment offered at The Farley Center is firmly rooted in treating addiction as a disease as well as the 12-steps approach. The step-work is complemented by pharmacotherapy and an evidence-based approach like CBT. The treatment goals include identifying issues that caused addiction in the first place, reconnecting with feelings, and developing relapse prevention strategies.
Family is also given importance in the treatment modalities, and the family is encouraged to take part in the family programs usually held during the weekends.
Group therapy sessions are the primary treatment modality at The Farley Center. That said, it also provides individual counseling, activity therapy, as well as MARI (Mandala Assessment Research Instrument), a type of experiential therapy.
Besides the primary residential treatment, the center also offers an extended residential program for those clients seeking treatment for issues like chronic pain, chronic relapse, and/or co-occurring issues. An Intensive Outpatient Program is also offered. The IOP sessions are held four days a week, and each session lasts for three hours.
The Farley Center, in addition to the programs mentioned above, also offers various specialized treatment programs. For veterans and active service members, it offers a military support program. For young adults aged between 18 and 25, there is a young adult track. The Fraley Center also provides a treatment track for professionals.
The Farley Center also offers aftercare programs comprising of referrals to AA/NA and clinical groups. A year-long recovery support program is also provided. This includes weekly checkups with a clinician.
The treatment team at The Farley Center comprises a psychiatrist, an addiction medicine physician, psychologists, nurses, licensed counselors and social workers.
