An accredited and fully licensed facility, Prairie St. John’s (PSJ), was founded in 1997 in Fargo, in the state of North Dakota. Focusing on children, adolescents, as well as adults, the facility offers services that address substance addiction, mental health issues, and co-occurring disorders.
PSJ offers its clients a full continuum of care when it comes to addiction and psychiatric issues. The tracks provided by the facility include inpatient services, day treatment (Partial Hospitalization), intensive outpatient services, and clinic services.
While the catchment area of the facility is Moorhead, Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota, the facility does serve patients and families from North Dakota, Minnesota, and other states.
The co-ed inpatient program of PSJ’s is a 110-bed facility. The rooms are all double-occupancy, furnished with single beds. There are common areas where the resident can socialize with other residents and watch television. The accommodations, overall, are basic. Residents cannot access computers during their stay at this facility.
Residents are served meals prepared by the kitchen staff. Special dietary needs are accommodated.
Clients wishing to undergo treatment at PSJ has to complete an assessment. Once they are assessed, they are assigned to different programs by the PSJ staff. Treatments options at Prairie St. John’s include an inpatient and residential track, outpatient program, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and low-intensity outpatient program, among others. All these programs are based on the 12-step recovery approach.
Even though PSJ’s residential program is listed as an “inpatient treatment,” in reality, it is a medical detox program. This track lasts between 12 and 14 days on an average. Chemical dependency education is a vital component of all the programs offered by PSJ. Clients have to participate in art, group and play therapies. The center also offers family programs.
Clients undergoing the IOP track have to attend thrice-weekly group sessions for three hours conducted in the evening for seven weeks. Clients undergoing the low-intensity outpatient program treat it as an aftercare program. They participate in a twice-weekly group session that focuses on ongoing care as well as maintenance.
Prairie St. John’s treatment team comprises of board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists (Ph.D. level), nurses, counselors (Master’s-level), licensed addiction counselors, and social workers. The facility also uses recreational and occupational therapists.
Sliding scale (outpatient); approximately $16,000 (30 days, inpatient).
