Pocono Mountain Recovery Center, based in northern Pennsylvania, provides a gender-segregated residential and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) track for adults having issues with addiction and substance abuse.
Set on serene, remote, and wooded 10-acre campus in Henryville, Pocono Mountain Recovery Center (PMRC) offers its clients treatment programs that include aftercare and extended care. Clearbrook Lodge, the center’s sister program, provides the same type of services but with a lesser number of clients.
PMRC clients stay in fully furnished, spacious semi-private rooms. The center does not offer any private room as they can further isolate the clients. The clients are gender-segregated, and interaction between them happens only during a few recreational activities. The PMRC campus has several meeting areas as well as communal spaces that have TVs and comfortable sofas.
The grounds of PMRC offers BBQ, fire pit, volleyball court, picnic area, and numerous walking trails. The center also boasts of a large community center (9,000 square-foot), which is used for recreational activities, special events, and alumni gatherings.
Residents are served tasty, nutritious, and home-style, chef-prepared meals in the dining room, which is big enough to accommodate all the residents at once.
Upon enrolling, clients undergo a comprehensive evaluation, which helps in determining their treatment track and medical needs. Those requiring detox are medically stabilized, receiving 24/7 care. The detox services last anywhere from four days to two weeks.
As soon as they are medically fit, clients start their individual and group therapy sessions. They are offered medication management and dual diagnosis support under a doctor’s supervision. Exercise is incorporated into every treatment plan, and clients can use PMRC’s well-equipped fitness center to work out.
Individual therapy sessions are offered two days a week. Group sessions are held every day for several hours. Clients also have to attend the in-house 12-step meetings mandatorily. Twelve-step and literature groups are conducted regularly, and clients are expected to work through the steps.
Other group topics include trauma, identifying triggers, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and stress management. All the sessions are facilitated by a licensed psychologist. Additionally, meditation and mindfulness techniques are also taught in this group.
The schedules are flexible, allowing clients to attend individualized treatment.
The IOP track offered by Pocono Mountain Recovery Center has three phases, and each phase lasts for 30 days. Majority of the clients taking part in the program reside at one of the nearby sober living facilities. During the initial treatment phase, clients attend sessions weekly five days for three hours. As they progress through the classes, the frequency of sessions reduces to three days and finally weekly once.
Besides the group sessions, clients also have to attend individual meetings. Clients have to meet the goals and display improvement to progress to the next level.
PMRC also offers a family program track that provides group and individual counseling sessions for loved ones. The unique feature of this track is that these can be arranged at any time.
Visitors are permitted on Saturday afternoons. Families and loved ones are encouraged to stay in touch with the client’s clinical team for regular updates. To assist in healing and recovery, PMRC offers its clients continued education and treatment goals.
Once clients graduate from the program and return to independent living, they get calls from PMRC every two weeks to check in and offer any assistance and support.
Approximately $60,000 (for 28 days).
