A part of Premier Healthcare, an Alpharetta, Ga.-based company, PineyRidge Behavioral, is a residential treatment center situated in Waynesville, Missouri. Operating since 1991, the center provides residential substance abuse and psychiatric treatment for children and adolescents.
The total capacity of PineyRidge Behavioral is around 96 residents (boys and girls), aged between 6 and 18. PineyRidge locks up its campus, meaning residents cannot venture out unattended. Girls and boys are provided gender-specific residential quarters on the campus. The residents attend school as well as the treatment groups during their stay here. Children and adolescents share their rooms and bathroom with other residents. The facility places security outside their rooms each night, as a part of the safety measure.
Besides attending the on-site classrooms, residents also have to do daily chores. They have to earn privileges to watch television and movies. These privileges can be earned through good behavior and successful participation in the tasks. Residents cannot use computers and cell phones during their stay, but they can call their home using the communal phone available.
During their free time, the residents can utilize the lush campus surroundings to go for a walk. They can also use the exercise room or play basketball.
Residents are provided three meals a day, served in PineyRidge’s cafeteria.
The length of stay at PineyRidge lasts between six and nine months. Along with substance abuse, the residents also suffer from co-occurring disorders requiring them to undergo mental health therapy during their stay there. Treatment modality at PineyRidge includes trauma-focused therapy and an evidence-based approach like CBT and DBT.
Each resident gets a customized treatment plan, which includes a daily individual and group therapy sessions. They also have to complete their academic coursework alongside the treatment.
PineyRidge’s Level System motivates the residents to put in their best behavior. Residents have to petition to move to the next level, and their petition is scrutinized by their treatment team, who determines if they have the ability to handle more responsibility.
As residents advance to the next level, they get more autonomy and earn more privileges. Some of the privileges include choosing their roommate, decorating their room, as well as taking part in special leisure activities such as dances and canoe trips.
For every four residents, PineyRidge employs one staff member. The treatment team at PineyRidge Behavioral includes Master’ s-level therapists, psychiatrists, a head substance abuse counselor, and LPNs. The center also employs a charge nurse as well as security staff.
Family visitations are allowed at the campus but require prior approval from the treatment team.
PineyRidge has a dedicated treatment track for sex offenders. Besides this, it also offers a Bridge Program, which helps adolescents as well as young adults, aged 16 to 21, learn necessary skills to make a smooth transition to the community and independent living.
