Through these programs, New Vision Wilderness aims at allowing youngsters and their parents to address their relationship issues and foster growth in their personal life.
Accommodations
The pre-teen and adolescent programming track is operated either out of Bend, Oregon, or Medford, Wisconsin. NVW takes care of everything that is required to keep the clients safe while they are living in the wilderness. While tents are provided for sleeping, clients can sleep in the small cabins during rough weather days.
Food
The clients are served food prepared by the center. The clients also learn how to cook as part of their treatment program. This includes oatmeal, sandwiches, pancakes, burritos, and spaghetti.
Treatment Programs
While there are high chances of having large groups when the programs are maxed out, the norm is smaller groups, which allow the clients to interact more and have a one-on-one session with the team.
A comprehensive treatment program is offered to the pre-adolescent groups, aged 10 to 12 while they undergo the outdoor adventure training. Treatment tracks are based on a trauma-model. It also utilizes several science-based approaches such as neurofeedback and brainspotting.
New Vision Wilderness also uses CBT, play therapy, and Seeking Safety. For most of the treatment programs, the younger clients are placed in mixed-gender groups.
The program for adolescents, aged 13 to 17, is more intensive. The treatment program entails clients having at least thrice weekly individual sessions, each lasting for an hour. They also have to undergo four hours of group sessions every week. Treatment programs for adolescents include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, brainspotting, and stress management.
Even though the programs are customized according to the client’s requirements, and the length of programs may vary, the average length of the program for pre-teens and teens is anywhere between six weeks to ten weeks. The center also makes sure that the clients do not lag in their studies while they are undergoing their treatment.
Staff
The team that runs these programs includes a medical director, a psychiatrist, and Master’s-level therapists specializing in academics and adventure therapy.
In Addition
Besides the programs mentioned above, New Vision Wilderness Therapy also offers art therapy, specialized canine therapy, equine therapy, and various other adventure therapy programs such as fishing, backpacking, mountaineering, cross country skiing, white water rafting, and more.
