One of the largest and the oldest residential treatment program for substance abuse in South Texas, Lifetime Recovery was founded in 1963. Situated in San Antonio, TX, Lifetime Recovery offers a residential program exclusively catering to men. The clientele of Lifetime Recovery primarily consists of people referred to it by the justice system. It acts as a sort of alternative to imprisonment.
The outpatient programs, on the other hand, are co-ed.
Spread across 26 acres, Lifetime Recovery is set up in a colonial campus. This Spanish-style building was built nearly 80 years ago and includes the facility’s administrative offices, meeting rooms, residential dorms, a dining area, and a weight room. All these are situated within walkable distance from each other.
Lifetime Recovery also has a media room equipped with a TV. But residents cannot use personal computers or cell phones in the campus.
As part of its residential program, Lifetime offers 94 beds. The men sleep in spaces that are divided into cubicles, with each cube accommodating four men.
Residents at Lifetime Recovery are provided three simple meals a day. There are several options for each dish. However, Lifetime does not accommodate dietary restrictions. Residents are served coffee once in the morning. They can, however, have soda and snacks from the vending machines that are located across the campus.
Upon arrival, all residential clients have to undergo an assessment for determining the most appropriate treatment plan. If they require detoxification, then they are provided referrals. Lifetime’s residential program for male clients lasts for nearly 90 days and includes 12-step techniques, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Residents at Lifetime have to get up by 7:00 am. They have to follow a strict program schedule of group and individual therapy sessions. They also attend educational classes where they are taught about addiction. The daily schedule varies according to an individual’s treatment plan.
Upon completion of the inpatient programs, residents are encouraged to enroll in a step-down residential phase. This involves them living in the facility but going out in search of employment. The number of restrictions is also very less. Residents still have to attend the group and individual therapy sessions, held mostly in the evenings.
Lifetime Recovery’s outpatient program lasts for five months. These programs offer addiction counseling to male and female clients as well as their families. These programs can either be used as an intensive aftercare program for residential clients or a standalone program.
For the initial five weeks of the programs, clients attend weekly individual sessions as well as ten hours of group sessions in a week. The remaining period sees clients attend group sessions for four hours a week as well as once weekly individual sessions.
Outpatient sessions are held either in the morning hours or the evenings.
Lifetime Recovery’s treatment team consists of LCDCs. The staff to client ratio at Lifetime is 1:10.
Besides the programs mentioned above, Lifetime Recovery also offers a family program. This program entails a weekly counseling session at both outpatient and residential levels.
All programs offered by Lifetime Recovery are designed to help its clients acquire the necessary tools for learning skills necessary for daily living as well as for long-term sobriety.
All clients are encouraged to get sponsors as well as attending 12-step meetings. The clients are also encouraged to form healthy relationships, create a support system, and serve the community.
