Opened in 1993, Life Healing Center (LHC) is a subsidiary of CRC Health, a recovery conglomerate functioning under Acadia Healthcare. LHC is located in Santa Fe near Sangre de Cristo, New Mexico.
With an experience spanning nearly 27 years, Life Healing Center offers inpatient treatment for clients suffering from addiction, emotional, and mental health disorders. The center takes an individualized and holistic approach to treating adults aged 18 and above. While the program length may differ, the minimum stay at LHC is 30 days.
Life Healing Center utilizes the 12-step recovery approach as the treatment modality. Besides offering dual diagnosis support, LHC also provides treatment for eating disorders and sex addiction.
Initially a Boy Scout camp, Life Healing Center can accommodate nearly 39 clients in renovated bungalows that are set up in a ranch-like setting. The rooms, painted with vibrant Hacienda colors, are shared between two clients. Room furnishings include single beds, desks, and dressers.
LHC focuses on not only providing its clients with nutritious food but also develop healthy habits. The food is not gourmet, but it does satiate hunger. The chefs also take care of the clients’ dietary restrictions.
Each client, upon their arrival, has to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Once cleared, LHC provides on-site detox under medical supervision. After that, the residents get primary therapists assigned to them. The therapists develop customized treatment plans. The client-to-therapist ratio is 1:6.
The residents meet the therapist once weekly; treatments offered includes EMDR, CBT, and DBT. The residents can take support of the addiction counselors who are available 24 hours.
Residents have to undergo group sessions for 30 hours a week, the group capacity being six to eight members. While programs may differ, some of the group addresses common topics like addiction education, core processing, healing shame, mindfulness, co-dependence, and psychodrama.
The treatment program is conducted on weekdays. The residents get up at 6:00 am, do a little stretching, have a quiet stroll on the grounds or hit the gym. After breakfast, residents attend a group session conducted by a master’s level therapist. This is followed by lunch.
After lunch, residents visit another afternoon group, based on their treatment plan. The evening sees residents attending the 12-step meeting, available on the campus and off-site.
While the center does not endorse any particular religion, they do provide support to residents seeking more spiritual guidance through breathing techniques, meditation, and Somatic Experiencing.
Programs graduates are either offered an IOP or a discharge plan.
Those who desire to hit the gym can do so at the local gym; transport is provided by LHC free of cost. Residents wanting to do yoga can do it on the campus.
For clients suffering from eating disorders and sex addiction, LHC offers programs that teach them healthy intimacy and coping skills, done in a gender-specific setting, to ensure integrity.
Approximately $28,000-$40,000 (30 days, depends on assessment).
