Open since 1985, KeyStone Center is a part of the United Health Services group and offers substance abuse treatment (residential and outpatient) for adults. The center provides the clients’ a customized treatment plan prepared using the results of a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment.
Keystone offers residential treatment from a beautiful Victorian mansion. The tree-lined campus has a three-story manor house. It can accommodate about 130 residential clients with women on the second floor and men on the third.
Each room is shared between three to four residents and is furnished with desks, shared closets, twin beds, and nightstands. The décor is warm with matching curtains, linens, and comforters. Therapy rooms, counseling offices, dining areas, nurses’ station, as well as the detox unit, are located on the ground floor. Residents can enjoy the TV during their free time.
Residents are provided three meals a day, served buffet-style. KeyStone does accommodate dietary requests, but these have to be informed during the admission process.
Residents requiring stabilization are offered detox with Subutex. KeyStone Center’s detox program can last for a week. Residents undergoing detox are housed in a detox unit which is situated close to the nurses’ station, thereby allowing close medical monitoring 24/7. Upon completion of the detox program, residents are transitioned to the inpatient program.
A typical KeyStone inpatient program lasts for 28 days on an average. Residents are provided treatment care plans that offer a systematic approach while dealing with stressors (past and present), stressful situations, and adjustment to sobriety.
The rehab believes that any inadequately or untreated psychiatric illness can prove to be a hindrance to a lasting recovery. As part of its treatment approach, KeyStone utilizes an evidence-based approach like CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and/or relapse prevention techniques.
The center’s psychology department also provides necessary inputs and coordinates the need for services like psychiatric evaluations, family therapy, and dual diagnosis support. Keystone’s counseling staff helps in identifying stumbling blocks to long-term sobriety and aids in building a stable foundation utilizing Stages of Change model.
Residents have a busy schedule in the program. The morning starts at 6:45 am with breakfast, followed by the first group session at 8:00 am. Each day, residents take part in a core therapy group and various lectures, educational seminars, and experiential task groups. Topics in group therapy include 12-steps introduction, relapse prevention, coping skills/anger management, and relaxation techniques.
Besides group sessions, residents also attend a weekly-once individual session, with the option of an additional session depending on the needs of the resident. They also participate in onsite NA/AA meetings (four nights ). As part of its holistic approach, the center also offers a family program that is conducted on Wednesdays, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Residents can entertain visitors on Sundays after they complete a week in the treatment.
KeyStone Center also offers two outpatient tracks – an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient program, provided at the center’s Brookhaven and Ambler locations, both a 30-minute drive from the main facility. Both sites offer a well-lit and comfortable counseling as well as group rooms.
The weekly-thrice IOP track lasts for three hours. The therapy sessions are divided based upon a topic. Clients are also offered a weekly-once individual session with the therapist. Clients are encouraged to commit at least four weeks to this program.
The outpatient program meets two days a week, with each session lasting for an hour. This track does not offer individual sessions, but sessions can be scheduled if required. The outpatient program lasts anywhere from six weeks to eight weeks.
In both the outpatient tracks, the group is limited to eight people.
Board-certified psychiatrists lead the treatment team at KeyStone Center and are available every day except Sunday and are on call 24/7.
KeyStone provides each residential client with a Master’s level therapist, a counselor, and a case manager. The caseworker-to-client ratio is 1:25; the counselor-to-client ratio is 1:10. The KeyStone Center also employs licensed support staff, a majority of whom are recovering. The tech to client ratio is 1:13.
Besides the programs mentioned above, KeyStone Center offers specialized tracks, residential and outpatient, for young people aged 18 to 26. This track utilizes a similar approach to other services. The main focus of these tracks is on issues related to “failure-to-launch”—how addiction has stopped young clients from maturing.
Approximately $12,500 (28 days).
