Center Category: Rehab Centers
Founded in 2010 and set on 30 acres of land overlooking Yatesville Lake in Kentucky, Karen’s Place is an all-women Christian-based, 12-step rehab center located near Louisa, Kentucky.
Accommodating 20 clients at a time, Karen’s Place is a lake house that has a cabin-like feel. The exteriors are light brown wood, which gives it a serene, relaxing look.
The housing units and treatment centers are all located in one place. The housing units have a communal area with a TV that the residents can enjoy during their free time. The housing units have rooms that can accommodate up to eight female residents. The rooms are furnished with wooden bunk beds giving it a sleep-away camp vibe.
To keep themselves healthy, residents can do yoga in the living room or go for a swim in the lake. They can also go for a hike on the beautiful nature paths. Residents desirous of sweating it out in the gym can use the church gyms.
Three home-cooked meals are served to residents every day. The meals are prepared from a menu designed by a nutritionist. The food leans more towards health than comfort. Residents can have caffeine and sugar in moderation.
The treatment approach utilizes CBT and DBT but does not include EMDR. Detox is also not offered. Karen’s Place, however, does provide support for dual diagnosis disorder.
The treatment programs at Karen’s Place are more about spiritual enhancement and development. Residents have to attend a 12-step program like NA/AA (on-site and off-site), as well as Celebrate Recovery and Living Free meetings.
Residents attend a minimum of 12 individual sessions – master treatment plan, psychological assessment, personality test review (TJTA), treatment plan review, spiritual inventory, topical counseling (one and two), skills and career assessment review, an additional treatment plan review, relapse prevention strategies, risk factors therapy, and finally, discharge and aftercare.
The treatment programs also include group therapy (15 hours a week) and 12-step work (five hours). Karen’s Place also holds a weekly mentoring group comprising new residents and graduating residents. Residents also do community service (six hours a week) and spend 16 hours on learning life skills.
A day at Karen’s Place begins with breakfast and cleaning up. This is followed by the PSMC curriculum, morning devotions group therapy, two hours of individual therapy, group therapy, art therapy, and AA meetings in the evening. Residents retire for the day at 10:00 pm.
Visitors can be entertained after the residents complete 30 days in the program. Residents can also go for a movie once in three months.
The treatment team at Karen’s Place includes an on-site MD and CADCs. The team is equally distributed, gender-wise.
Christianity is an integral part of the facility’s curriculum, and residents have to take part in church services mandatorily. Taking part in the choir is also mandatory. Clients have to wear formal attire on Sundays.
A unique feature of treatment programs at Karen’s Place is that these are not your regular 28-day or 30-day programs. The programs offered by Karen’s Place last for 37 days, 100 days, and 180 days.
Approximately $6,300 (30 days). A sliding scale is also offered. Karen’s Place does accept Kentucky UNITE Vouchers.
