Center Category: Rehab Centers
Opened in 1965 by Rev. Bill Barton Sr., Home of Grace is a treatment center that provides inpatient treatment for substance abuse.
The center operates from two locations – Vancleave for men and Gautier for women. Home of Grace offers a Christian-centered curriculum for treating its residents.
Of note, Home of Grace does not provide detoxification services or dual-diagnosis support.
The Gautier facility, exclusively for women, is located close to National Wildlife Sandhill Crane Refuge and features cottages with ensuite bathrooms, classrooms, private and group counseling areas, a dining hall, a craft room, as well as group conversation areas.
Campus for men is located in Vancleave, which borders Bluff Creek. The facilities offered here are similar to that of Gautier but have additions like a volleyball court, laundry facility, media room, and a chapel.
Housing and treatment are offered in the same place at both institutions. Both facilities have an on-site medical clinic where volunteering doctors and nurses treat minor ailments. This clinic runs on a twice-weekly basis.
Residents cannot use cell phones while undergoing the program under any circumstances, but can use landline phones. Residents in Phase One can call with prior approval of the counselor. Phase Two allows residents one 15-minute phone time every week. Residents, however, cannot receive calls.
Residents enjoy restaurant-quality food three times a day.
Home of Grace offers a three-month program that is centered on the tenets of Christianity and has two phases. Each phase, building upon each other, has specific goals and focus, responsibilities, as well as requirements for a successful accomplishment.
Priority is given to spiritual discipline, which is obtained through group and individual counseling, classroom work, work therapy, as well as community living.
Treatment comprises of regular worship, Bible study, devotional services, along with a schedule created for preparing the residents to start life anew after graduating from the center. A once-weekly individual session lasting for an hour is also conducted for the residents.
Once the residents are enrolled, they undergo orientation for a week following which they embark on classes that include necessary life skills, Biblical life application, emotional healing, forming healthy relationships, relapse/recovery skills and parenting skills.
A typical weekday at Home of Grace includes devotionals, work detail, scheduled classes, counseling (group and individual), recreational activities, as well as evening chapel.
On Saturdays, residents attend personal enrichment classes, recreation, and evening chapel service. On Sundays, residents visit chapel services in the morning and evening.
Staff at Home of Grace is well versed in the faith-based recovery process and the business. The clinical team has been licensed by MAAPS (Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals), and most of them have a degree in counseling.
The staff-to-resident ratio at Vancleave is 1:20 to 25 residents, while it is three counselors for a group of 10 residents at Gautier.
Besides the residential program, Home of Grace also offers Adult Education Program for those residents who do not have a high-school diploma.
Residents are also allowed a structured down time, group and personal devotions, journaling, chapel, special ministry services, and worship services.
