Opened in 1985, Greenbriar Treatment Center is a substance abuse facility located in Washington, PA. The center offers its clients inpatient and outpatient programs for substance abuse, as well as halfway house (gender-specific), spread across the state of Pennsylvania.
The residential facility, located in Washington County, offers treatment for adults with a special focus on co-occurring mental health ailments. The center also provides on-site detoxification services.
Located in rural Washington, Pennsylvania, the residential facility of Greenbriar can accommodate nearly 62 beds in a co-ed program. The residential unit is a spacious, two-story building. It is a beautiful building and is surrounded by pine trees.
The rooms in the housing units are furnished with twin beds with headboards, shared dresser as well as a closet. The rooms also have an ensuite bathroom. Approximately four clients share each room. Even though some programs offered by the center are co-ed in nature, there is gender segregation. The male and female clients sleep separately.
Clients staying in these units are responsible for ensuring that their rooms are tidy. They also have to do their laundry. Greenbriar offers detergent to the clients and operates coin-operated laundry machines.
The center has rules and regulations with regard to wearing tank tops as well as prohibiting shirts that have offensive language on them. Besides these, shoes have to be worn at all times. Clients, however, cannot wear hats.
Clients are served three nutritious meals every day in the facility’s dining room, cafeteria-style. The kitchen staff prepares all the meals. While the chefs can accommodate special dietary requests, it is not always possible given the number of clients.
Vegetarian clients can also munch on the veggies in the salad bar that is available during lunch and dinner. Snacks can be enjoyed throughout the day.
Clients start their treatment program at Greenbriar by undergoing an initial assessment. Based on the results of the assessment, the clients are either transferred to an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or a residential treatment program.
Treatment tracks at all the locations are similar and generally consist of group and individual therapies, psychoeducational groups, family counseling, as well as workshops on recovery at the workplace and relapse prevention.
Clients who take part in the treatment program have to attend NA and AA meetings (off-site and on-site). They are also encouraged to create sober support networks in the community as well as obtain temporary sponsors.
As an aftercare option, graduates of the residential and outpatient tracks are given priority when it comes to admissions to the halfway houses.
The treatment team of Greenbriar comprises licensed alcohol and drug counselors, technicians as well as Master’s-level therapists. A technician and registered nurse are present on the site 24/7. The staff to client ratio at Grteenbriar is 1:8.
Besides the Washington center, Greenbriar operates other facilities spread across the state of Pennsylvania. These include Monroeville, Kensington, Strabane, Robinson, South Hills, Squirrel Hills, and Wexford.
