Center Category: Rehab Centers
Established as Sarasota Rehabilitation Program in 1967, First Step of Sarasota, Inc. started its residential treatment units in 1983. The center offers more than 20 treatment tracks for substance abuse which includes detox, inpatient as well as outpatient programs.
The center’s residential treatment track utilizes the 12-step approach and is offered in increments of 30, 60, 90, and 180-day programs. It also provides 270-day as well as one-year programs.
The First Step of Sarasota residential unit was built to address the needs of the organization. The housing unit has a common area, a sports area, a pool, and therapy rooms. Two residents share the motel-style residential units, with each getting a separate twin-sized bed.
The clients are provided with meals that are served cafeteria-style. The costs of the meals are included in overall costs. The cooking staff does accommodate most of the dietary restrictions.
Detox at this center is offered in a medically-supervised unit consisting of 30 beds. The detox program lasts anywhere from three to ten days. Detox clients are provided adequate vitamins and proper nutrition and are directed towards self-help groups. They are also offered an aftercare plan.
During their stay, they participate in structured, daily activities like on-site NA/AA meetings, educational groups, and discharge planning.
When it comes to residential tracks, First Step provides two treatment tracks – Pathways and Mothers and Infants program
Pathways is a month-long treatment track that includes counseling services and relapse prevention strategies for a fee. First Step offers Seasons – a residential program focusing on clients having issues with co-occurring disorders.
Based on the 12-step treatment modality, this program offers symptom management, communication skill-building, relapse prevention, goal setting, groups, family counseling, as well as discharge planning.
Depending on the customized treatment plan, a client can stay in the Seasons treatment track anywhere from 30 days to 60 days. This program is free for clients. All tabs, except for medications, are picked up by the state. However, clients with private insurance cannot take part in this program.
Extended care is provided to clients requiring dual diagnosis support and having issues with criminal justice. This can last for at least 90 days and need the active participation of friends or family.
Another residential track offered by the First Step is the Mothers and Infants program. This program is a combination of individual and group counseling with a focus on nutrition, parenting, and life management classes. Clients should be aged 18 and above and pregnant to be eligible for this program. Infants are allowed to stay on the campus during the program. The length of stay depends on the assessment by the treatment team. This program is also free.
The First Step of Sarasota residential unit is staffed by a registered nurse, three LCDCs, as well as a visiting medical doctor.
To help people with disabilities, having limited English proficiency, as well as people who are either deaf or hard of hearing, First Step has created an Auxiliary Aids and Services Plan.
This program guides the treatment team while they are providing services.
Approximately $10,000 (30 days).
