Founded in 1973, Dawn Farm is a nonprofit treatment center offering substance abuse treatment to adults. Dawn Farm offers its clients a full bouquet of care such as sub-acute detox, residential services, outpatient program, supportive transitional housing, and several active outreach programs.
The evidence-based approach is the treatment modality followed by Dawn Farm. The center offers its clients CBT, EMDR, 12 steps, and support for co-occurring disorders. The center offers a residential program from two units – a farm in Ypsilanti and a unit in Ann Arbor. Non-medical detox and outpatient programs are offered at Spera Recovery Center, in Ann Arbor.
Dawn Farm offers a residential program at two locations – Dawn Farm in Ypsilanti and Dawn Farm Downtown – another facility in Ann Arbor. The Dawn Farm is set up on a functional 64-acre farm and provides its clients with high-quality treatment. The property has chickens, pigs, and an organic garden, allowing the client to interact with nature during their treatment.
The recovery program offered at Dawn Farm Downtown is the same; the only difference being the location. Downtown is located in downtown Ann Arbor.
The intake at Dawn Farm’s Ypsilanti residential unit is 36 clients. Rehab costs are kept under control by offering the residents modest accommodations and amenities. Residents are provided bunk beds to sleep in. Residents staying in the farm have the responsibility to run it.
Clients of Dawn Farm are served three meals a day. The clients can also choose from various healthy options. The residents plan and cook their meals and use locally grown vegetables, eggs, and meat whenever possible. Dietary requests are generally accommodated.
The residential treatment program at Dawn Farm lasts 90 days to 120 days, allowing clients enough time to get over their old habits and get settled into new routines which will enable them to assimilate quickly into the community. The treatment program uses evidence-based modalities along with holistic measures.
Residents take part in daily group sessions and individual counseling. Additionally, the residents may also take part in EMDR, art and work therapies. Lectures and educational classes are also offered regularly. Besides these, the center offers its residents GED services, job training, and vocational referrals. Residents are encouraged to get sponsors and attend local meetings.
Daily recreational activities and chores revolves mostly around the farm’s need. Residents are assigned various chores such as garden maintenance, animal care, and maintaining the grounds.
Before graduating, residents also have to sign up for an aftercare program, lasting for six months. They can live in the transitional housing unit offered by Dawn Farm – Chapin Street Project for two years.
Dawn Farm treatment team comprises half-dozen certified addiction counselors and social workers with a Master’s-level degree. It also employs a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a medical director.
