Located in Sanford, Florida, Central Florida Men’s Center provides long-term residential substance abuse and addiction recovery programs. The center dedicates a whole year to get the client turn and stay sober. Unlike other treatment programs, the treatment programs offered by the Central Florida Men’s Center focus on addressing the core issues affecting the clients.
Residential units of the Central Florida Men’s Center closely resembles a campus. It houses approximately 80 residents. They live in four dorms, with 20 residents to each dorm. The dorms have minimal furnishing and offer nothing more than a bunk bed and some storage.
As the residents progress, they gain privacy and eventually end up living in semi-private rooms. These dorms have green space. It has basketball and volleyball courts as well as a weight room. A TV is also present in the facility, but residents can watch only educational programs on it.
Residents eat their meals together in the cafeteria. The meals are simple and can include grilled chicken, burgers and fries, and vegetables.
Treatment programs at Central Florida Men’s Center are centered on daily chapel devotions, addiction recovery education, life skills, pastoral counseling, and on-site vocational training. Vocational training include food preparation, kitchen management, facility repairs and maintenance, grounds maintenance, janitorial services, administrative assistance, as well as electrical skills training, among others.
The center also teaches the residents ways to prepare a resume and search for jobs. They also help residents get a GED if needed. Since the programs lean more towards Christian faith, staff members choose Bible readings to help residents overcome their addiction problem.
A typical day at Central Florida Men’s Center starts at 6:00 am with breakfast. Scriptures, chapel service, and journaling follow this. Residents then undertake Bible study till 10:00 am. They take a break at 10:00 am, and either have down time or undertake some recreational work.
Lunch is served at noon. After lunch, they work till dinner at 5:30 pm. This is followed by another short break, after which they visit the chapel for an hour at 7:30 pm. Lights are out at 10:30 pm.
Besides the monthly cost, the center charges around $1,300 induction fee and approximately $250 bus fare and medical fee. Residents can offset nearly $1,200 of monthly expenses through the work performed by them on the campus.
The treatment team at Central Florida Men’s Center comprises administrative staff and Christian counselors. The center has around 20 staff members. The staff-to-client ratio ranges from 1:2 to 1:4.
Since the Central Florida Men’s Center is a faith-based organization, they are not required to hire any licensed staff or get any state certification.
The center does provide its residents’ occasional outings. They also hold fundraising events such as car washes.
Once the residents graduate, they can stay on the campus for continued Christian support. They, however, have to keep working and live a Christian lifestyle.
