Buffalo Valley, Inc., established in 1979, offers substance abuse services such as residential treatment, medical detox, and outpatient treatment. Buffalo Valley also provides case management services, GED screening, job placement services, psychological evaluations, vocational rehabilitation, life skills counseling, and self-esteem enhancement.
The facility operates from different locations spread across Tennessee – Castalian Springs, Nashville, Lewisburg, and Hohenwald. The Hohenwald location has gender-specific facilities and serves as flagship locations.
Male residents at Hohenwald facility reside in a large, one-story building. Two to three clients share a room and the bathroom. While the male residential facility can house nearly 100 clients, only 80 members are present at any point. Once they undergo on-site detoxification, residents are shifted to another building for inpatient treatments.
Residents at inpatient treatment share a room with one or two residents. The room, which has an en suite bathroom, is minimally furnished with twin beds, nightstand with drawers, and small dressers.
Female residents are housed in a sprawling one-story building that is situated across the town. The amenities are similar to the ones that the male residents get, but it does not have a separate apartment. Female residents live in the main facility that has a capacity of about 45 residents at a time.
Since exercise is an essential tool in the recovery program offered at Buffalo Valley, the facility has horseshoes, basketball and volleyball courts, a punching bag, and a treadmill. Residents can also enjoy a quiet walk around the facility during their free hours.
Both the residential facilities have a cooking staff who serve the clients with three piping hot meals daily. Residents can munch on snacks at night. They can also use the vending machine whenever they wish (provided they have the change for it).
A typical residential program at Buffalo Valley lasts for 28 days, which also includes a period for detox that lasts anywhere from five days to a week if a client requires it. Residents attend gender-segregated individual and group therapy sessions. The residents receive a streamlined program track to ensure that they are on the path to recovery.
The facility also provides various sessions such as life skills programs, workshops on relapse prevention, lectures on substance abuse, family programs, and therapeutic work activities. Residents also attend several 12-step meetings in a week. These are held off-site and the residents are transported to the meetings. Buffalo Valley also offers a PHP program that lasts for a week.
Although Buffalo Valley offers mental health counseling as part of a dual diagnosis component of the treatment program, it does not prescribe any medications for it. The facility, though, has the services of a psychiatrist who prescribes medicines to residents already on medications.
Besides a psychiatrist, the treatment team at Buffalo Valley consists of a medical doctor, licensed counselors, and a nursing team, which is available 24/7 on the facility.
Embracing the advancements in technology, Buffalo Valley offers its clients “e-therapy.” In this program, a client can undergo screening, get assessed, start treatment, and have an aftercare plan all via web-based services and phone. This program also has tracks for low-income clients, veterans, elderly, homeless, and disabled.
Approximately $9,500 (28 days, detox costs included, no insurance).
