Based in Brighton, Mich., Brighton Center for Recovery utilizes the abstinence-based approach for treating its clients. The center also provides on-site detoxification and treatment for co-occurring mental health problems.
BCR’s tobacco-free campus has two gender-specific dormitories. Each dormitory accommodates 16 clients in eight rooms. All rooms are double-occupancy rooms and furnished with shared dressers, twin beds, and en suite bathrooms. The roommates also share storage space.
Clients are required to get their clothing, medications, medical supplies, and toiletries. While laundry facilities are offered by BCR, clients have to get their dryer sheets and soap.
Residents are served food, cafeteria-style. The meals are accompanied by a salad bar and soup. Residents can munch on snacks throughout the day. Caffeine and limited sugar are also permitted.
Upon admission, clients have to undergo an alcohol and a drug screen conducted by a master’s level clinician and a nurse. After screening, clients enrolling in the inpatient program go through a medically supervised detox, if necessary.
On completion of the detox program, clients enter a rehab program lasting for 28 days. This program draws upon principles of 12-step approach and offers group therapy, prayer, educational workshops, recreational therapy, and specialized counseling.
Those who cannot commit themselves to a 24-hour treatment cycle are offered an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) track. Outpatient clients attend thrice-weekly sessions for three hours. The sessions consist of educational activities and group counseling.
BCR also offers specialized treatment track for healthcare professionals, women, and those who are early in the recovery process. A free children’s program is also provided for children (aged 7 to 12) affected by the alcohol and drug addiction of an immediate family member.
Once clients complete the treatment program, they are transitioned to gender-specific sober homes – Women’s Transitional Home and Harry Henderson Halfway House for male clients. Both facilities can accommodate 16 clients each.
