The Bloomington, Indiana based Bloomington Meadows Hospital is set up on seven acres of rolling hills. This facility specializes in addressing substance abuse as well as co-occurring disorders in adolescents, aged 12 to 18.
Bloomington offers programs like detoxification, residential treatment, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and a general outpatient program. The facility also offers limited services like detoxification, dual diagnosis support, as well as outpatient treatment programs for adult clients (aged 18 and above).
Through its two additional clinics in New Albany and Terre Haute, Bloomington Meadows has covered southwestern Indiana when it comes to adolescent mental health and addiction issues.
A private hospital, Bloomington Meadows, is located on a picturesque campus. The center offers 68 beds. Around 16 beds are assigned for an adolescent residential program for substance abuse as well as dual diagnosis support. Bloomington Meadows also has a unit for medically monitored detox. This unit can house around 12 patients. This is open to teens and adults.
The accommodations are gender-segregated, and residents stay in shared rooms, which are furnished with dressers, twin beds, and small cabinets for storage. Residents cannot keep jewelry, curling irons, hairdryers, electronic items, nail clippers, mirrors, or dental floss with them. Residents have to get about four pairs of clothes. Facilities offered include laundry service and phones.
Residents can make calls during their allotted time. Calls can only be received during breaks.
Residents are provided enough time for recreation. The facility boasts of an outdoor play area as well as walking paths on its campus.
Residents of Bloomington Meadows Hospital are served meals cafeteria-style. The meals are prepared with inputs from nutritionists. The center does accommodate special dietary restrictions. Caffeine, candy, gum, and tobacco are strictly prohibited.
Residents at Bloomington Meadows are provided treatment based on a customized treatment plan. The medically monitored detox track lasts for a week and addresses addiction to alcohol or benzodiazepine. It, however, does not involve the use of methadone or Suboxone. Clients are stabilized with the help of essential as well as psychiatric medications. Adults who complete the detox program are either referred to an outpatient program or an adult residential program.
The adolescent inpatient track has an on-site school which is run by state-licensed educators. Residents take part in daily classes, group and individual sessions, and recreational activities. Treatment is offered based on modalities such as CBT and DBT. The center, however, does not follow the 12-step recovery approach. A typical residential program lasts for 30 days. Following this, clients are transitioned to a different program.
Besides the inpatient program, Bloomington Meadows also offers an adolescent PHP track aimed at those clients who do not need round-the-clock monitoring but do require treatment. This track runs for six days a week, from 8:30 to 1:30 pm. Clients are served a snack during the session.
Parents or guardians are required to share with the treatment team medication recommendations and any specific concerns. The treatment team discusses treatment goals and weekly updates with parents or guardians. The program length is around ten days.
Bloomington Meadows also offers an eight-week outpatient program, which meets twice weekly during the evenings. Each age-specific group session lasts for three hours. Individual therapy sessions are also provided.
An IOP track is offered at the center’s New Albany location. Participants in this program meet three days a week, and each session lasts for three hours. The program also includes a once-weekly hour-long individual or family session.
Bloomington Meadows’ clinical team includes physicians, psychiatric nurses, Master’s-level therapists, and CSACs.
Program residents are offered art and music therapy and classes focusing on effective communication, stress management, and education about alcohol and drugs. Bloomington Meadows also provide referrals and free 24/7 telephonic assessments for substance abuse.
