Center Category: Rehab Centers
Azure Acres is a part of the CRC Health recovery conglomerate. Located in the woods of Sebastopol, Azure Acres is set up in a historic lodge. This alcohol and drug rehab center was built in 1906 by Bernard Maybeck as his vacation home but was converted into a rehab center in 1959.
A co-ed facility, Azure Acres, offers 28 beds. Each bedroom has a rustic vibe and is furnished with two quilted beds and a nightstand. The campus has a bench swing, an outdoor pool, picnic areas, and hiking trails. Even though Azure Acres does not represent any particular region, the ground does have a small shrine of St. Francis of Assisi.
Azure Acres focuses on healing the client physically, emotionally, and spiritually. To that end, the residents are served food that is more focused on nutrition than comfort.
The inpatient program offered by Azure Acres typically lasts for 30 days. Those requiring detox are provided short-term medically-assisted detoxification utilizing Subutex. The treatment program uses a 12-step approach and includes group and individual counseling, lectures, relapse prevention classes, and on-site NA/AA meetings.
Daily life at Azure Acres is very balanced. Along with the treatment sessions, the residents also have ample free time. Residents have to wake up at 6:45 am. They attend a book study and a community meeting before having breakfast at 8:00 am. After breakfast, residents have to clean their rooms. After the chores, residents attend morning groups. Lunch is served at 1:00 pm. This is followed by free time and rotating group sessions. Residents attend a Big Book study at 5:00 pm, have dinner at 6:00 pm, and attend AA/NA from 8:00 to 9:00 pm. The day ends at 11:00 pm.
Azure Acres does not have a rigid approach to treatment. It supplements the AA’s Big Book with offerings such as Qi-Gong groups and a spiritual workshop (an eight-part series) by a spiritual advisor. The facility also offers gender-specific special process groups. The residents have to attend a closure group before winding up for the day. This group involves alumni coming in to share their experiences. There is also a “humor in treatment” program held every month where a recovery comedian entertains the residents.
Besides the inpatient program, the facility also offers its clients an outpatient program. The outpatient program involves group sessions in the morning and evening, each lasting three hours. Around 24 meetings are held during the six-week-long treatment program.
At any given point, about nine to ten drug counselors are present on the campus. Most of the counselors are in recovery. The staff-to-client ratio is 1:3. This lowers when the center is not at its maximum capacity.
The weekends at Azure Acres are set aside for loosely-structured family programs. This involves process groups, lectures, and free visiting time. These are also a part of the outpatient program.
Azure Acres doesn’t hold back on aftercare either. The “lifetime” program includes a customized relapse prevention plan, free weekly groups, referrals to halfway homes or therapists, alumni meetings, and a lot more.
Approximately $14,000 (30 days).
