Established in 1983 by Father Joseph Martin and Mae Abraham, Ashley Addiction Treatment provides its clients with comprehensive care combining medical, clinical, as well as spiritual programs that address their unique needs.
Ashley Addiction Treatment uses a multi-faceted approach to help the clients get back into good physical health, provide adequate clinical support by teaching about the problem, and also recovery life skills. It also guides them spiritually. Catholic influence does weigh heavily at this center.
Residents of 78-bed Ashley Addiction Treatment stay in same-sex housing units. The rooms are clean and cozy and are shared by three residents. Even though the center requires its clients to practice self-care when it comes to personal space, it does provide laundry and housekeeping services.
Residents have to follow strict rules when it comes to using phones. There is a complete restriction on using the internet, outside reading, and music.
When it comes to food, Ashley Addiction Treatment offers its residents hearty meals. Breakfast includes fluffy eggs, fresh pancakes, and crispy bacon. A wide range of options such as pasta, fresh fish, chicken, juicy steaks, and meatloaf are offered during lunch and dinner.
Upon arrival, the residents are provided a copy of either NA’s basic text or AA’s Big Book, and Twenty Four Hours by Hazelden.
Days at the center start at 6:00 am. The residents are kept occupied till 9:00 pm, which, while sounding exhaustive, gives them little time to worry about alcohol or drugs. The programs are gender-segregated, with group counseling being the only mixed-gender activity. The residents do not mingle even during meals.
Most of the waking hours at the campus are spent on attending the group therapies based on the 12-step approach, individual sessions, or reading the Big Book.
The staff at Ashley Addiction Treatment consists of medical doctors, registered nurses, psychologists, specialized clinicians, and addiction counselors.
Despite the hectic schedule, the residents do find time to engage in other activities like working out, aerobics, arts and crafts, meditation, yoga, and playing drums. Residents can also get a massage at extra cost.
Relapse prevention is one of the specialized treatment protocols offered by Ashley Addiction Treatment. They were the pioneers in this way back in the early 1980s when the concept was first introduced. Over several years, the center has created a unique program – The Ashley Relapse Treatment program – that incorporates the 12-step approach, Ashley’s treatment philosophy, and Relapse Prevention Model designed by Terrance Gorski.
This program is offered along with a strong and very active alumni network that still interacts with each other, and arranges as well as hosts various events at the center’s multiple facilities.
