Founded in 1982 by Winifred Arms, Arms Acres is situated on a 54-acre land in Putnam County, New York. Arms Acres is an ideal setting for those who want to get sober in peace and tranquil countryside setting.
Arms Acres is a licensed 183-bed facility and provides inpatient treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. The programs are offered to adults and adolescents. The facility also provides an inpatient detox facility to its clients.
During the 28-day inpatient program, clients are housed in an institutional bedroom with twin beds and have access to a shared bathroom. The individual and group therapy sessions are held close to the accommodation provided.
During their stay, the residents of Arms Acres cannot leave the campus. Smoking is strictly banned on the campus. Residents can unwind in the common room during the down time, which also has a TV. Residents cannot use cell phones and laptops during their stay here.
Residents of Arms Acres are served meals in cafeteria-style. A typical meal at Arms Acres is hearty since most of its clients enter the program with low body weight. Healthy eaters, as well as dieters, are given the option of salad bar during every meal.
Arms Acres, as part of its treatment program, offers a 12-step –based gender-specific rehab. The treatment team at Arms Acres believes that men and women have different issues and one treatment approach will not be suitable for all.
The gender-specific programs include detox (if needed), once-weekly individual counseling, workforce programming, evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, AA and NA meetings (on-site), trauma therapy, nutritional education, relapse prevention, mental health groups, cultural awareness education, as well as aftercare plans.
Besides the inpatient stay, Arms Acres offers its clients a multidisciplinary outpatient program at three different locations. There are three slots to choose from – day, evening, and weekend. Each outpatient program includes chemical dependency assessment, drug testing, individual and family counseling, anger management, and relapse prevention.
Arms Acres also has an adolescent program that focuses on adolescents aged between 11 and 17. Programs offered include both inpatient and outpatient programs, with emphasis on CBT therapy as well as motivational enhancement groups. The programs aim at actively engaging, educating, and efficiently treating substance abuse cases among adolescents.
As part of their treatment, adolescent clients receive once-weekly individual counseling, psychiatric evaluations, family counseling, family support, case management, and nutrition assistance.
Arms Acres boasts a staff-to-client ratio of 1:10. The staff is a multidisciplinary team and includes physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, CASACs, family specialists, social workers, and activities specialists.
The experiential therapy and supplemental treatments offered by the organization include acupuncture, art therapy, equine therapy, swimming, and yoga. These facilities are included in the overall cost.
