Founded in 1999, A New Awakening Counseling Agency is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The center uses a holistic and multi-cultural approach to treat mental health and substance abuse issues.
New Awakening offers traditional services like group, family, and individual therapy as well as alternative treatment methods like acupuncture, Ayurveda, yoga, massage, and Tai Chi. Overall, the treatment offered by New Awakening to address co-occurring disorders is a mixture of Western and Eastern approaches.
Clients seeking treatment at New Awakening have to undergo a biopsychosocial evaluation following which a customized treatment plan is prepared. While New Awakening does not offer on-site detoxification services, they do provide referrals when necessary.
New Awakening has several weekly outpatient groups that focus on substance abuse, PTSD, yoga, parenting, meditation, stress, physical health, and anger management. The counselor, along with the client, determines the best treatment track for the individual. Each group sessions last for two hours and offer a less-intense approach to outpatient treatment.
The topics discussed in the substance abuse group include anger management, relapse prevention, life skills and communication, as well as an introduction to the 12-step model. Evidence-based modalities like DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are most-frequently-used treatment modalities.
Besides the group sessions, individual sessions are also offered to the clients. The individual session lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. New Awakening utilizes counseling as well as holistic methods like Ayurveda for treating mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
Individual sessions are either conducted along with outpatient group sessions or on its own. Clients in the early stages of recovery start with a once-weekly session, gradually decreasing the frequency as they become sober.
The New Awakening Counseling Agency staff comprises MDs, counselors, Ayurvedic doctors, meditation and yoga teachers, trauma therapists, and acupuncturists. The group size does not exceed more than ten clients.
All holistic services mentioned above, including individual sessions, Ayurvedic sessions, massage, yoga, acupuncture, Tai Chi, and drug screening, are provided to the clients for a small fee.
Approximately $65 (initial assessment); approx. $65 per session (individual, family and couple therapy); approx. $30 per group therapy session.
